What does one buy these days for someone who already has everything?

In today’s world, it seems as though almost anything can be ordered with the click of a button. Need a gadget? It’s delivered tomorrow. Looking for something fashionable? There are thousands of options. We live in a consumer-driven age where access to “things” has never been easier.

But perhaps that raises a deeper question.

What do we give when there is nothing left to impress? What do we buy when people already have cupboards full of possessions? (mens noem dit Kaggelkakkies😂).

Maybe the answer isn’t found in buying more.

Maybe it takes us back to something our grandparents understood well. In the “old days”, gifts weren’t always extravagant. They were thoughtful. They were personal. They carried meaning. A homemade treat, a handwritten note, fresh flowers from the garden, or a beautifully wrapped candle that brought warmth and comfort to someone’s home.

Perhaps the best gifts have never really changed.

In a world overflowing with things, people still long for moments. They long to feel remembered. They cherish thoughtfulness, beauty, peace and connection.

A purposeful gift doesn’t need to shout…

It quietly says:
“I thought of you.”

And perhaps, in the end, that is something no amount of consumerism can replace.

Maybe the question is not, “What do I buy for someone who has everything?”

Maybe the question is:

“How do I make someone feel loved, appreciated and remembered?”

And sometimes, the simplest gifts leave the most lasting impression.

Because in the end, it’s not the things we give, but the thought behind them.
